It’s Day 13 of the Find Your Art Style Experiment and I am once again looking back in my sketchbook to this colourful image of a man that I like. I decided to see if I could create something similar using other reference images as a starting point.
Instead of going straight in with pen, today I decided to start with a mechanical pencil to create a rough drawing to work over the top of. In some ways, this is good as it allows you to change your mind about things, but it does lack a bit of spontaneity.
Once I had the drawing marked out I used a Pentel Brush pen to create the linework. I do like the sort of marks you can make with this pen, although mine started to run out near the end and I had to change the cartridge.

After the brush pen, I erased my pencil marks and applied watercolour in bright colours. I fancied trying out some pastel pencils so I used those on top of the watercolour on the second one, which may have been too much

I quite like the way these turned out, but for some reason, they don’t feel like mine. Anyway, I better let my dog out for a wee, he’s probably busting by now. See you tomorrow
