It’s Day 19 of The Find Your Art Style Experiment and Today I decided I would create some collage pages to work over the top of. I created some pages just by glueing on little bits of paper and then used acrylic paint with collage.
Collaged Background
I also attempted just using paint to see if I could create something that would give me the shape of a character. I should have known better I hate acrylic paint. Other people make amazing effects with it and I have painted with it in the past but I hate it. It put me in a really crappy mood. I so want to like it, but I find it slow to dry and very messy.
Anyway, I tried drawing over the collage backgrounds, but the bad mood did not help. For the first drawing, I created a similar creature to what I have painted before but with a cat. I gave it a phrase “Cats are just Mean”. I really don’t know if I like it or not. When other people create in a grungy style I love it, but when I do it I look at it and think – that’s just a rough old mess that looks like you can’t draw.
Drawing with pen over collage
For the second drawing, I started drawing a shape that could be the head of some sort of creature, then added another and decided the small one would be offering the large one wine with the phrase “This will make you think you’re funny” above it. But the composition doesn’t work, it’s all a bit static
So, it might be a while before I get the acrylics out again. I think I need a medium with more immediacy. Hoping to be in a better mood tomorrow.
