It’s day 38 of the Find Your Art Style Experiment. Over the weekend I made a couple of backgrounds, this one has some kraft paper and text and acrylic paint on it.

Colouring the Face with Neocolor

neocolor face drawing

I pencilled in my drawing and then used my Neocolour 2 starting with the lighter colours on the face. I wish I had drawn the face more straight on rather than to one side as I am not that keen on the face shape, but I carried on with it. I added some darks and a roughed background and then added some water to smooth things out.

Adding Lines with Stabilo All Pencil

I used a Stabilo All pencil to add in black lines around one side of the face as I have done before

Changing the Background

I kept trying to make the background work, but it wasn’t going well. I had pretty much given up and turned the camera off, but then decide to have another go and darkened up one side of the background added the impression of a few bare winter trees and the words waiting for spring on the green side.

abstract face art

I am not keen on the way this turned out, but I learned a few things. I prefer faces straight on when drawing like this. Collage doesn’t work for as I end up covering it all up anyway so it just looks messy. Maybe a straight acrylic background with mark-making could work if I don’t apply the paint to thicky where the face will be. Maybe I should draw other subtle faces in the background.

Anyway lots more to think about tomorrow
