It’s day 46 of the Find Your Art Style Experiment. Today I decided to try something based on an exercise I did many years ago at art college.
Mindmapping a Word
The idea was to create a mind map. I used an old telephone as a starting point after seeing one on TV and then added associated words, letting my mind run freely.
When I had finished I took a few of the words I found interesting and tried to combine them in a drawing which would also incorporate a face as I love faces.
Finding Reference Images to Draw
I found some reference images to use as a starting point and pencilled in my idea of a head attached to a telephone, with pincers for arms, a horn coming out of the man’s head and a stethoscope for a tail.
Colouring up the Drawing with Neocolor ii Crayons
Then I coloured the drawing up with Neocolors. I used some water to smooth the Neocolor out.
Drawing in a Character, Loose Faces and Other Marks
Once it was dry I drew I character around the eye and added some loose faces, marks, speech bubbles and morse code like marks around the image.
It’s quite surreal and weird, but I quite like it.
I will see you tomorrow.
