It’s day 48 of the Find Your Art Style Experiment. I had the read urge to use charcoal and water today, probably because I haven’t used it much before.

I found a great free reference image and pencilled in an outline. Then I used a broad Koh-i-Noor Charcoal mechanical pencil holder and charcoal to draw the face. I thought it would be fun to add some animals nesting in her hair. As the charcoal is quite thick it’s impossible to get any detail so I had to keep things loose.

Adding Water to the Charcoal

Then I applied water to the charcoal to smooth areas out.

Adding the Background

red- neocolor ii and water

I decided to make the background red using a Neocolor 2 red pastel and water. Next,  I added some lines around the eyes with a black Stabilo All pencil. I then added some grungy black bits and rough faces in the background.
I don’t think I have got the hang of Charcoal yet, so that’s something to work on.

I will see you tomorrow.
