It’s day 45 of the Find Your Art Style Experiment. At the weekend I was digitally experimenting in Procreate with the drawing I did on Friday and really liked the effect.
Experimenting Digitally in Procreate with the Abstract Face
So instead of doing the mindmap drawing intended doing today, I decided to see what it would look like if I tried to do something similar with real art materials.
I sharpened my black Neocolor with a scalpel, drew the character around the eye and created some very loose faces and marks around the original face with Neocolor and the Stabilo All Pencil.

I put a couple of black areas like I had done on the digital version and was hoping I would be able to scratch back the black to reveal the yellow and colours below but that didn’t really work. I should have perhaps tried a masking pen or clear wax and worked over it with a marker.
I think I prefer the one I have drawn over. I know I want to get that grungy feel that I like so much in other artist’s work and I feel like this is getting there and more layered and interesting. But you may disagree.
I will see you tomorrow.
